FAQs
What will our daily routine look like?
You will begin each day by having quiet personal time and then by contributing to the care of the household by completing assigned daily tasks. After this, you are free to make your own breakfast and then we get together for our “Discipleship Themes” group study and prayer. After this, you will have classes to attend and home work to do.
Weekends consist of a day of rest and attending our local church on Sundays.
About one week out of every month will be spent in the jungle. You will be doing self directed study during that time, as well as practicing your Spanish and ministering to the family and/or community that you stay in.
There is also plenty of time to discover the fun aspects of living in Ecuador and making new Ecuadorian friends!
How much clothing should I pack?
Pack much less than you think you will need. You can wash your clothes frequently and really do not need a large wardrobe. Pack for cool as well as hot weather. Be sure that you read the suggestions and the limitations in your Entry Manual. You can always purchase things in Ecuador if you find that you forgot something.
How often will I be able to call home, and how will I call home?
You can call as often as you like. Although, we recommend that you limit those calls home and try to connect with your new PW family and create meaningful relationships there instead of holding too tightly to the ones you left behind. You should have your family download SKYPE (it’s free!) so that you can call from the computer at our base for free! You can also use the “cabanas” in town to call from an indoor phone booth (you pay when you are finished).
What kind of food will we be eating?
When you are in the jungle, you will eat whatever is served to you by Ecuadorians. This usually consists of lots of white rice, white bread, yucca, potatoes, soups, chicken and sometimes fish. There will also be pleanty of fresh juices offered to you.
When you are at our base in Carlos Maria de la Torre, you will all be on a rotation schedule to prepare dinners and will be expected to eat whatever is lovingly prepared for you by your fellow students! Breakfast is on your own, and lunch is sometimes taken together and sometimes taken on your own.
Okay, now you start typing up q’s and I will answer them for you!
