Our History
Compassion Connection was founded by Steve and Sandi Youngren in 1998. After pastoring in the United States for over twenty years, they made the transition from North American church leaders to foreign missions.
Steve and Sandi recognized the call to “go into all the world and preach the gospel” and figuratively “dropped their nets and followed Him,” much like the disciples in the New Testament.
“At first we felt like the apostle Paul, who was knocked off his horse and sent in another direction, but God has faithfully guided us every step of the way. He led us further and further south, until we landed in Quito, Ecuador – where He has given us a place to call home and a ministry that fulfills our call to discipleship and leadership training.”
Since its formation, Compassion Connection has been faithfully served by several of the original board members, and have added a few new ones along the way. These are men and women who have walked through the trials, joys and hardships of forging forward in a call to fulfill the mission of the gospel on foreign ground.
Compassion Connection is now joined by an experienced and competent staff in Ecuador of those called to this same purpose. You can be introduced to each one by checking out the staff page.
“We never intended to walk this path alone. We need your prayers, encouragement and support as we humbly forge forward and trust in Him who sent us.”
